Frontier College's SCRABBLE® Corporate Challenge, presented by TMX Group, is Frontier College's preeminent fundraising event. The 9th Annual SCRABBLE ® Corporate Challenge was held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Arcadian Court in Toronto.
Hosted by CBC's Dragons Den member David Chilton, 56 teams participated in theSCRABBLE® competition and PwC celebrated the win of the 2013 SCRABBLE® Corporate Challenge Championship! The winning team opened the TSX Market on March 11th. Record funds were raised in one night spelling success for Frontier College and its important mission to improve literacy rates for children, youth and adults across Canada.
Senior executives and business leaders from banks, investment, technology, telecommunications, accounting, law, and PR firms came together for a one-night, no spell check SCRABBLE® competition. It is an excellent opportunity to entertain key clients, business associates and valued employees with a rewarding evening of fun and excitement.
It is a fun-filled evening where Bay Street scores big for Literacy. This year, over 56 teams participated racking up triple word scores vying for the TMX Cup and the opportunity to open the Toronto Stock Exchange. From lawyers to bankers, over 350 senior executives get on board to become the top wordsmith and battle it out for word supremecy.
A tournament based on a word game is the perfect event to bring awareness to low literacy rates in Canada. Literacy is an essential skill in today’s world. At Frontier College, we believe it’s a fundamental right. Low literacy skills are directly linked to poverty, poor health and unemployment. More than 40% of adult Canadians do not have the literacy skills required to perform everyday tasks such as reading e-mail or helping their children with their homework.
Since 2005, this unique event has raised over $2 million for Frontier College and its important mission to improve literacy rates across Canada. Thank you Corporate Canada for believing in the power of literacy to transform the lives of our learners.
